The Town Council approves today the 2024 budget settlement, more than one million euros that allows the elimination of the Town Hall’s outstanding debt
Ruiz: “Every euro that used to go to debt repayment will now be used to improve services, infrastructure, and the well-being of all residents”
The Redován Town Council brings the balance to zero today with the approval in a Plenary Session of the positive Treasury surplus for 2024: €1,054,218.69, which allows the full settlement of the Town Hall’s outstanding debt. The Councillor for Finance, José Nájar, and the Mayor, Nely Ruiz, announced this “historic” milestone for the municipality at a press conference today, as it puts an end to over 6 million euros of debt that had been accumulating since 2011, when the Popular Party took office.
Nely Ruiz recalled that at that time, “the situation was critical, with unpaid invoices, unfulfilled commitments with associations, debts with consortiums and even with the Generalitat”. That is why, the mayor added, “we began implementing a rigorous, responsible management focused on cleaning up public accounts, which has led us to close the 2024 financial year with this positive Treasury surplus and the opportunity to cancel the debt — which, of course, we are going to do”.
The Councillor for Finance, José Nájar, explained that as of last December 31, the debt stood at €914,314.69, corresponding to pending payments to suppliers and a loan from the Economic Boost Fund requested in 2021, which was used to resolve another long-standing issue — a pending expropriation dating back to the 1980s. Nájar emphasized that this operation will be a relief for municipal finances, “but also a guarantee of strength and confidence to face future projects with greater freedom and ambition”.
“Today, Redován leaves behind a historic burden and looks to the future with economic stability,” the mayor stated, explaining that with no debt to pay off, the Town Council will be able to allocate “every euro that previously went to debt repayment to improving services, infrastructure, and the well-being of our residents”. As a result, Redován now enjoys sound finances, taking another step toward becoming a modern, balanced town designed for the people who live in it.

- The City Council presents the book and programme of the festivities that have not been held in full since 2019, when the DANA forced the suspension of part of the events.
The Redován Town Hall has everything ready to kick off, on 27 August, the most eagerly awaited fiestas in honour of the Virgen de la Salud and San Miguel. As the Mayoress and Councillor for Fiestas Nely Ruiz recalled, “in 2019 because of the DANA we were unable to finish our fiestas as they deserved, and then the pandemic has kept us waiting for another two years, so both the Town Council and the Fiestas Committee know the enthusiasm of the whole town of Redován to recover them as we have always known them, and with the same enthusiasm we have worked to achieve this”. Nely Ruiz was accompanied during the presentation by Carlos García, author of the photo that illustrates the cover of the fiestas book, taken during one of the firework displays in September 2020, at the worst of the pandemic.
The traditional celebrations add up to around thirty events that will get underway on Saturday 27 August with the election of queens, the proclamation of the fiestas by Nuria Escudero Rodríguez and the crowning of queens, an event that, as is traditional, will take place in the Plaza de la Paz. From then on, there will be a succession of events, both civil and religious, until 30 September, when the programme will end with a mass. On 11 and 13 September the ‘Sálvame’ will be held in the bullfighting ring and on Friday 16 the Redován Dance Association will offer its Dance Gala. The Fiesta Blanca, one of the most popular of the fiestas, will be held on Saturday 17th September at 21.00 hours in the Plaza Miguel Hernández and will feature a performance by the Happy’s. Registrations can be made at the Town Hall from 1 to 16 September.

On Sunday 25th September, the XVII Encuentro de Motos Clásicas Villa de Redován will be held, with remember music by the group American Revival and at 20.00 hours on the same day we will switch to the music of the Unión Musical de Redován, with the Concert of San Miguel Arcángel. On 28 September, the eve of the celebration of San Miguel, the musical show ‘Somos Eurovisión’ will take place in the Plaza de la Paz and on the 29th, the feast of the patron saint, at 12.00 there will be mass officiated by the new parish priest, Emilio Manuel Sánchez Martínez, sung by the Manos Unidas Choir. At 20.00 the procession in honour of San Miguel will start and will end with a new fireworks display in the Avenida de la Diputación.
Nely Ruiz thanked the involvement of “the many people who have made possible the preparation of this extensive programme”, as well as the work for the publication of a book of more than 200 pages “in which we can find, as is traditional, a guide with practically all the shops and establishments of Redován, as well as numerous collaborations of people who have selflessly wanted to participate and further enhance our festivities”. The mayoress made special mention of the clubs and barracas of Redován grouped in the Junta Festera: Barraca La Gramaera, Peña Contrabandista El Volante, Peña Contrabandista, Barraca Pirata Redován, Barraca Templarios, Barraca Sultanas, Comparsa Benimerines, Barraca Los Cobras, and welcomed the Comparsa Mora Al-Khäusil which joins the festive groups this year.

- Students from the school will sing and recite poems by Miguel Hernández and the title of Senderista 2020 will be awarded to Antonio Hurtado Martínez
Redován welcomes this Friday a new edition of the Poet’s Path. This year the IVAJ repeats the virtual edition, that is to say, it will be possible to follow through the website of the Valencian Youth Institute the events of the municipalities in which this hernandiano path makes a stop, and the first, after the departure in Orihuela, is in Redován, the birthplace of the father of the universal poet. The Redován Town Council, through the Youth and Education Departments, has prepared an event which will take place at 11.30 am in the Plaza de la Paz to which, as councillor Rebeca Martínez Rufete points out, “we invite the people of Redován who wish to attend, as there will be no walkers but we can count on the public in a large place where you can keep a safe distance, as is the Plaza de la Paz”.
The councillor explained that this event will include the participation of students from Sagrados Corazones School, who will perform a song and recite poetry in memory of Miguel Hernandez, whose death is commemorated on the 80th anniversary on March 28th. This will be followed by the appointment of Senderista de Honor 2020, a title that could not be awarded due to COVID-19 and that will be given this year to Antonio Hurtado Martínez. The Rambler of Honour will receive a commemorative plaque and the document with the agreement of the Plenary on his appointment.
“We regret not being able to return to normality and welcome the walkers to our town, but we hope that this edition of the Poet’s Path can be followed by many people through the IVAJ website and that they can enjoy the event we have prepared,” said Martínez. The councillor encouraged the people of Redován to come and enjoy the spirit of the path again “and to open their mouths for next year, when we will recover the total normality of an event that is a reference throughout Spain, of which Redován is a part”.

- The Redovan municipal police force has 13 posts covering the public safety service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The staff of the Local Police has been consolidated with two selective processes that have been carried out in recent months: a chief officer and two agents with the category of career civil servants. In this way, José Gabriel Martínez takes over from Antonio Ruiz, who retired a few months ago. Martínez, with 21 years of service in the municipality of Redovan, has passed the selection process and, therefore, now officially occupies the post of chief officer.
On the other hand, two police officers who were working as interim officers have won their permanent posts after the selection process that has just ended. In this way, the Redován Local Police now has 13 officers in the absence of a vacancy which will be filled shortly and which corresponds to the post left by the current chief. The Redovan Town Council has made a firm commitment to the job stability of the police force, as the aim is that, little by little, all members of the police force will be career civil servants. That is why the procedures have been initiated to launch a new competition to incorporate these people into permanent positions.
The councillor for Security, Adrián Ballester, has been responsible for presenting these new additions in an appearance in which he stressed “the work done by the Local Police in Redován, because it is a body close to the citizens that in addition to working public safety performs many more tasks such as attending events, attends the entrance and exit of our schools and any situation that arises on the part of our neighbours. Ballester has therefore reiterated the importance of consolidating the positions that were in interim status “so that the main concern of our agents is to ensure the safety of our people”. The officers have been enrolled in the course for new local police officers organised by the Generalitat Valenciana through IVASPE.
24 hours, 365 days
The police force covers the public safety service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and its vehicle fleet includes two hybrid vehicles, equipped with defibrillators, among other things, as well as a moped. Ballester also said that collaboration with other forces such as the Guardia Civil at the nearby Callosa de Segura post is constant “and thanks to this joint work, various important operations have been carried out in our municipality in recent times”,

- Registrations are now open and can be downloaded from the website or picked up at the Town Hall for both the Tennis Stage and the Sports Schools.
Redován is bringing back this year, with all the measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the municipal summer schools. During the month of July, the Los Pasos Sports Centre will host both the Tennis Stage and the Sports School, activities that will join those already announced by the La Vega Association of Social Services in its traditional ‘Vegavacaciones’. The Councillor for Sports, Ramón López Escarabajal, and the Councillor for Social Services, Marisol Ibáñez, have presented these activities which “bring us back to normality in a way after a blank year due to the pandemic”, said the municipal officials.
Ramón López explained that the registration process for the activities is now open. Applications can be downloaded from the Redován Town Hall website or picked up in person at the Town Hall. Once completed, payment must be made through the Suma Gestión Tributaria website and all documentation must be presented. The registration process for the Sports Schools will be open until Tuesday 22nd June, while for the Tennis Stage it will be until the 28th.
Both activities, aimed at ages between 5 and 16 years, will be held from 5 to 30 July from 9.00 to 13.00 hours, “with the aim, as usual, to reconcile work and family life in a period in which children are already on holiday, in addition to offering them physical activity outdoors instead of being at home,” said the Councillor for Sports. With regard to the price, Ramón López indicated that “it is 60 euros for the whole month, but there is also the possibility of registering for fortnights at a price of 40 euros each, a flexible way that we believe also helps families to organise themselves”.
For her part, the Councillor for Social Services has given an account of the ‘Vegavacaciones’ activities organised by the Mancomunidad La Vega from 1 July to 4 August, following a change in the initial dates. On this occasion it is about “socio-educational activities that aim to promote coexistence and teach students values in a fun way,” said the municipal responsible. Registration for this summer school is open until 21 June and all the details can be consulted on the Mancomunidad’s website https://www.mancomunidadlavega.es/. The title is ‘The Travelling Suitcase’ “and the children who attend will be divided into two age groups, one for the youngest, from 3 to 5 years old, and another for those from first to fourth year of primary school,” said Ibáñez.
The registration fee is 50 euros and since places are limited and with all the measures against Covid-19, applications will be accepted in strict order of registration. “That is why from Redován Social Services we encourage people who want their children to attend these schools to come to the Town Hall to apply, as our team will be able to answer any questions they may have”.
